Tales of Mystery and Imagination( EDGAR ALLAN POE) - 25

  Although I was feeling so nervous, I tried hardto hide my terror. I was not sure if Usher had beard the sounds that I had heard. In the last few minutes he had moved and was now sitting with his face towards the door. But I could see that his lips were shaking and his body was moving gently from side to side. I continued reading the story :

 

And now Ethelred, after he had killed the dragon, turned and saw in front of him a palace of gold with tall gates of shinging silver in the walls. Bravely, Ethelred ran towards the palace, but the shining silver gates did not wait for his coming and fell to the ground at his feet with a great and terrible ringing sound.

 

절정으로 치닫고 있는 중입니다. 그런데 이 소설을 읽다보면, 어셔라는 이름이 재밌죠. <Usher- Us her>, <우리에게 그녀를>, 상징하는 바가 무얼까요, 마들렌의 죽음과 삶, 부활과 죽음. 주인공은 감각이 지극이 예민한 사람입니다. 그런 초감각이 인간의 내면에선 무엇을 잡아내고, 죽음에선 무엇을 잡아낼 수 있었을까요?
