"Nothing is impossible in life" is the message veteran techer Elaine Anderson communicates to the Deaf school for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine. "I won't allow my students to use deafness as an excuse for failing to achieve," says Anderson, the mother of two deaf sons. "My lessons are not(1) watered down; they are ability to learn and perform."(2) Deaf herself since birth, Anderson doesn't consider this a handicap. "It's only a hearing disability," she stresses. To help improve communication between the deaf and hearing communities, Anderson established the Deaf and Hearing Impaired Service Center in St. Johns interpreters to help the deaf interest with the courts, lawyers, doctors and other service providers. But Anderson renders her best service in the classroom.
