부정사를 이용하여 복문을 단문으로 문장전환을 할 때, 주절의 시제와 종속절의 시제가 일치하면 단순 부정사로 처리하고 일치하지 않으면 시제를 구별하기 위해 완료 부정사(to have + p.p)로 처리한다. 이런 원리는 영어 전체에 해당한다.
It seems that S + V -- → S + seems to + R
appears appears
happens ..........
chances
is likely
is certain
turns out
be + p.p(thought, supposed, believed, said...)
cf) It seems that the same thought strikes Mary. ( 주절의 시제 = 종속절의 시 제)
=The same thought seems to strike Mary.
It seems that the same thought struck Mary. (주절의 시제 ≠ 종속절의 시제)
=The same thought seems to have struck Mary.
