A trait always noticeable in a successful leader is this ability to persuade others. There are times, of course, when every leader must make a decision and see that it is carried out regardless of what others may think. But whenever men can be persuadd rather than ordered - when they can be made to feel that they have participated in developing the plan - they approach their tasks with understanding and enthusiasm.
Prime Minister Churchill was a pursuader. Indeed, his skill in the use of words and logic was so great that on several occasions when he and I disagreed on some important matter - even when I was convinced of the correctness of my own view and when the responsibility was clearly mine - I had a very hard time withstanding his arguments. More than once he forced me to re-examine my own premises, to convince myself again that I was right - or accept his solution. Yet if the decision went against him, he accepted it with good grace, and did everything in his power to support it with proper action Leadership by persuation and the wholeheartd acceptanceo of a contrary decision are both fundamental of democarcy.                                           - D. Eisenhower

2. Europe's longest river is the Volga, which winds its way for 2,325 miles through the heart of European Russia. Apart from draining a vast region equal to the combined area of France, Italy and germany, the Volga has served from hundreds of years as the principal highway in the Russian interior, where roads and highways are even now few and far between. on the numerous small river boats that play the Volga are shipped wheat and other grains from the Ukraine to the northern cities of Russia, oil from Caucasus, northern timbe to the ports of Caspian and Black seas. The Volga, howerer, offers two drawbacks to shipping. The first is the period during wihich the river is frozen, sometimes lasting as long as five and a half months. The second difficulty is that the river is shallow in spots, so that even in summer only certain types of vessels can navigate it.

3. It is indeed a mad world we live in today. I am not just speaking about the war Indo-China, nor about the pollution of air and water, nor even about modern art. What I mean is that everything is confused, inside-out and upside-down. The boundaries are fast disappearing that used to divide day form night, summer from winter, and sanity from madness. With the assistance of electricity we can continue the day far into the night, and students can spend their nights studying and their days in bed.; and it is ony our watches that keep us aware of the continual passing of time.

Another boundary that is becoming blurred in modern life is the natural boudary bwtween the sexes - between boy and girl, man and woman. In former times there was a clear distinction between the one and th other, in a veaety of ways including character and behavior, clothing and style of hair. But today this distinctin, though still persisting, is showing signs of fading away. Of course, there have always been girls with masculine interest and temperament; and there have always been bous of a weak, womanish nature. But they have been regarded as exceptins to the ruel, and even as exceptins that prove the rule. Today, however, such is the craze for equaltity that this kind of mixture has cometo seem less exceptional and evern fashionable.
