인간, 인간관계 - 86

오늘의 지도자는 스스로 모든 것을 속속들이 알아야 하고 또 빈틈없이 감독해야 한다. 그는 판단하고 시키는 사람이요, 제 손으로 그 일들 전체를 하는 사람은 아니다. 어느 한 부분에 친히 개입하면 전체를 지휘할 수가 없기 때문이다.

 

<표현 연구>

• 오늘의 지도자 - a leader of today; a boss of(in) modern times.
• 속속들이 알다 - have a thorough knowledge of ~; be sufficiently informed about ~; know sufficiently ~; be thoroughly acquainted with ~; know ~ inside out.
• 모든 것 - (여기서는 [자기가 맡아 지휘감독하는 일]의 뜻이므로) one's own job in evevr field; all aspects of the work he is responsible for; the ins and outs of the work under his charge.
• 빈틈없이 감독하다 - supervise strictly; exercise a closer supervision over ~; enforce a strict control over ~; have a strict control over ~; have vigilant supervisory power.
• 판단하다 - pass a judgement; pass judgement on; (여기에서는 문맥으로 보아 [결정을 내리다]의 뜻에 가까우므로) make decisions.
• 시키다 - let(have) (other people; his people) do(fulfil) ~; let others put (them = the dicisions) in practice; have others translate ~ into practice(action).
• 제손으로 하다 - do ~ with his own hand; execute ~ himself.
• 어느 한 부분에 친히 개입하다 - get personally involved in any specific part of the work; take a personal hand in any part of the work.
• 전체를 지휘하다 - direct and supervise the whold work; direct the work as a whole; place the whold work under one's efficient command; take  (assume, hold) command of the work as a whold; take(assume) the efficient leadership of directing the whold work.

 

<구문 연구>

1. 첫 문장은 주어를 [오늘의 지도자]로 놓고 술부를 (a) should be acquainted with ... and have a strict control ... 처럼 하든가, (b) is required를 동사로 놓고 부정사 to have a thorough knowledge 와 (b) exercise a close supervision 를 여기에 함께 연결하면 된다.
2. 두 번째 문장은 (a) 주어를 He로 삼아사 He is the man who ....., instead of ~ ing ... 구문으로 처리하든가, (b) His job 를 주어로 세워 His job is to ~, not to ~ 처럼 옮긴다.
3. 마지막 문장은 가정법을 써서 He would be unable to ~ if he should ~ 로 처리하면 된다. [~때문이다]를 살려서 This is because 를 문두에 놓아도 된다.

He is the man who makes dicisions and lets his people put them in practice, instead of executing all of them himself. He would be unable to direct and supervise the whold work in an effective way if he should get personally involved in any specific part of work.

(2) A boss in a modern society is required to have a thorough knowledge of the work in his charge and to exercise a close supervision over it. His job is to make overall decisions and have others translate them into pracitice, not to do all of them himself. This is because he would be unable to place the whold work under his efficient command should he take a personal hand in any specific part of the work.
