2. As much as is possible, all scenes in motion pictures are shot on the lot. Forests, ships, country lanes, mountains, canals - all are built up and tricked. The best standard by which to judge a setting is, of course, the feeling of reality that it gives. Howerer, this does not mean that the setting will be exactly as it would be in real life. To the facts of life must be added the imagination of the scenic artist who develops the set. It is true that the modern settings are usually relaistic, but sometimes impressionstic or symbolis effects are alos used. Setting should, therefore, be judged by their appropriateness, that is, by the way in which they fit the characters in the play. Another standard of judgment is the historical accuracy of the settings. The customs and traditions of the period concerned must be followed. Still another standard for settings is variety. It is possible, of course, that the setting might be accurate and appropriate but that they might to too few or too much the same throughout the entire picture. There might also be too much sameness in the settings from pictrue to picture. Good directors, however, do not make such mistakes.

3. Work has forced many to turn day into night and night into day. According to a study recently conducted on airline polots, abnorma hours not only produce fitigue, but they can acturally shorten an individual's life span. There are physiological resaons why man works better during the day and sleeps better at night. In prehistoric times, man and other animals lived t othe pace of the earth's rotation with its alternationg periods of light and dark. It seems that we all carry in our organism a biologicl time clock. With the discovery of electrocity, it was possible to transform night into day and to alternate the natural process, adapting it to the most convenient schedules for transportation, work, and entertainment. But it has been proved that the human biological clock resists these changes. We are not the same person at 10 A.M. as we are at 4 P.M. or at midnight. The body temperature changes. It vaires around two degrees every twenty-four hours. With extraordinary regularity, the body temperature rises during the day and drops at nightfall, falling to its lowest level between 2 A.M. and 5 A.M. Man usually feels best when his temperature is near its highest level. If he is awake when his temperature reaches its lowest level, he feels uncomfortable. This is the period when night workers have the most accidents and when most heart attacks occur. When the night workers tires to adapt to this schedule, his temperature continues in the opposite direction. The adaptation will take place eventurally, but it takes a long time. Look at how long it takes us to adjust to a different time zone!
In spite of the fact that much is now known about sleep, it is still unclear why humans must sleep and why they need us as much sleep as they do. Sleep is not just a time to rest, since it has been shown that as much physical and mental activity goes on in sleep as in the waking hours. And we sleep sometimes even if we are not tired and don't need to recover strength. Since the first serious study of sleep began in the early 1960's quite a lot has been dicovered, but many more mysteries remain unsolved.
