기후, 계절 - 8
꽃필 무렵의 흐린 하늘이 어느새 맑게 개인 오월의 하늘로 바뀌고 화창한 햇볕을 받은 새싹은 무럭무럭 자라나 싱그러운 신록의 푸르름을 더해가고 있다.

꽃필 무렵의 흐린 하늘 : 직역하면 a cloudy(hazy) sky in the flower season 이나 cloudy weather in springtime 정도가 되겠다. 그런데 마음에 걸리는 것은 flower season 이나 springtime 이 미국이나 영국에서 5월을 포함하는가에 여부이다. 영국이나 미국의 New York 지방에서는 5월이 한창 꽃철이므로 이 경우 그냥 flower season 으로는 좀 이상하게 느껴질 수 있다. 따라서 <흐린 4월의 하늘이 막은 5월의 하늘로 바뀐다>는 식으로 하여 April with its msity(hazy) sky merges into the sunny May of cloudless ble 처럼 표현하는 방법도 있겠다.
맑게 개인 5월의 하늘 : <하늘>을 중심으로 해서 나타내면 a May sky of spotless blue 가 된다. 가령 <푸른 하늘>은 azure sky, the deep blue sky, a bright(blue, emerald, seren) sky 처럼 a, the 어느 것이나 취하지만, 단독으로는 a sky 가 아니고 the sky 가 됨녀 형용사가 붙을 때에만 한하여 a ... sky 가 된다.
어느새 : before one becomes aware, before one know it 또는 unnoticed 따위이지만 여기서는 <멍청하게 있다 보니>라는 느낌을 줄 우려가 있다. 따라서 soon 이나 very soon 을 쓰는 편이 낫다. 이밖에도 ,어느새>의 뜻은 동사로 나타낼 수 있다. <어느새 날이 꼴딱 저물었다> the twilight merged into darkness / 어느새 초여름이 되었다. Late spring merged into early summer. 이것을 이용하면 The flowery April with its misty sky has merged into the sunny(bright) May of cloudlss blue 가 된다. merge 대신에 pass(glide, lapse) into 를 써도 된다. <하늘>을 주격으로 삼으면 give way to ~ or be replaced by ~ 를 쓸 수 있다.
새싹 : yooung(new) shoot, sprout.
무럭무럭 자라다 : grow quickly(rapidly), show rapid growth.
싱그러운 신록 : <~ 신록의 잎>을 말하는 것이므로 fresh green leaves(follate 이것은 단수형). verdure 도 fresh greenness 를 나타낸다.
싱그런 신록의 푸르름을 더해가다 : 좀 옴기기가 힘든 내용이다. 평범하게 the trees and shrubls are wearing ever-thickening cothes of fresh green, or the fresh green leaves of trees and shrubs are getting more and more luxuriant(growing in luxuriance) 쯤으로 옮기는 수밖에 없다. 또는 (The quickly growing new shoots) are thickening the trees and shrubs with fresh green clothes 로 한다.

1. <꽆필 무렵 ... 바뀌고>까지를 한 문장으로 분리하여 묶는다.
a. <하늘>을 주격으로 하여 The misty sky of the flowery April has soon given way to(given place to, been replaced by) ...
b. April을 넣어서 주격으로 삼으면 The flowery April with its mist sky has merged into ...
어느 경우에나 시제는 5월을 말하고 있는 것이므로 현재완료형으로 한다.
2. 후반부는 <새싹>과 <나무와 숲>을 각각 주어로 하여 and 로 묶는다. 즉, '... nwe shoots are ..., and the trees and shrubs are ...' 처럼 된다. 또는 <무럭무럭 자라라는 새싹>을 주격으로 하여 the quickly-growing new shoots are thickening ... 처럼 처리할 수도 있다.
영작.
