기후, 계절 - 7

 

어제 중앙 관상대에서 발표한 바에 따르면 우리나라는 제주도 남부 해상에 머물러 있던 강우 전선이 남해안으로 이동함에 따라 장마철에 접어들었다고 한다. 내달 초부터는 중부 지방이 본격적인 장차철로 돌입하게 된다는 것이다.

중앙 관상대 : the Central Meteorologican Office(Observatory).

 

...에서 발표한 바에 따르면 : according to ... 가 흔히 쓰이며, 이밖에 ... said 도 된다. <발표한 바>에 지나치게 신경을 쓸 필요는 없으며 구태어 옮기려면 according to the forecast of ... 정도가 된다.

 

제주도 남쪽 해상에 : over the sea (to the) south of Cheju-do, south는 부사로 쓰이므로 (to the)가 생략될 수 있다. Ex. <수원은 서울의 남쪽 약 40킬로되는 지점에 있다> Suwon is situated about 40kilometers (to the) south of Seou

 

머물다 : stay, 여기서는 stay의 시제를 과거완료진행형으로 하는 점에 유의한다.

 

강우전선  : a rain front.

 

남해안으로 이동하다 : move  to the southern coast. <~에 상륙하다>로 생각하여 land on the southern coast로 할  수도 있다.

 

장마철에 접어들다 : (우리나라를 주어로 하여) go into the rainy season. (장마철을 주어로) the summer rainy season set in.

 

중부 지방 ; the central parts of the nation.

 

본격적인 : an all-out (rainy season), 이밖에 real, full-scale 따위도 쓸 수 있으며 또한 a rainy season 을 주어로 하면, in earnest(본격적으로) 처럼 부사적인 표현도 가능하다. Ex. <본격적인 전쟁> a full-scale war / <본격적인 여름 ; a real summer. / 본격적인 겨울철이 되었다. Winter is making in earnest.

 

돌입하다 : 어감을 살려서 rush(headlong) into ~ or plunge into ~ 를 써도 되자만 그냥 평범하게 go into 도 좋다. 또는 see (the rainy season) set in in earnest로도 쓸 수 있다.

 

(구문 연구)

 

1. 첫 문장은 주어를 the nation 으로 하던가 아니면 the rainy season 으로 한다. 즉, The nation went into the rainy season ~ or The rainy season set in(began) ~ 가 된다. 이 부분은 <중앙 관상대에서 발표했다>를 문장의 주체로 할 경우 종속절이 된다.

 

2. <~함에 따라>는 as(when)로 인도되는 부사절로 만들거나, 보다 간략하게 with로 시작되는 부사구로 처리한다. 죽, with the rainfornt moving to ~ 와 같은 구문이 된다. Ex. <밤이 다가오자 우리는 공원을 떠나 집으로 갔다> With night coming on, we left the park for home.

 

3. 후반부의 문장은 주어가 없으나 분명 <중앙 관상대>가 말하는 것이므로 대명사 It 로 시작하든가 또는 (the_ weathermen 으로 바꾸어 써도 된다.

The central parst of the nation will plunge into a full-scale rainy season early next month, the weathermen said.
