핵심 point) 감각 동사에는 자동사로 쓰이는 2형식 동사와 타동사가 있다. 2형식 구조는 S + V + C로 S=C가 성립한다. 따라서 주격보어로 형용사(해석을 부사로)가 와야 한다. 타동사로 쓰이는 지각 동사는 대표적인 5형식 구조로 목적어와 목적 보어 의 관계에 따라 목적 보어로 능동이면 원형 동사나 진행형이 되고 수동이면 p.p.가 된다.
지각 동사 + O + O.C O - O.C의 관계가 능동일 때
see, watch, look at O.C는 원형 동사나
hear, listen to 진행일 경우에는 V-ing가 온다.
notice O - O.C의 관계가 수동일 때
perceive O.C는 p.p.가 된다.

구문을 암기할 때는 직역을 해보면 쉽다. 이 구문도 직역을 하면 무생물 주어 는 A를 B로부터 멀리 유지한다, 격리한다, 막는다는 뜻이 된다. 결과적으로 <A가 B를 할 수 없다>가 된다.
문장 설명) their main job- 이하의 절에서 it는 형식 목적어이고 that 절이 진목적어이다. 그래서 해석을 하면 <그들의 주요 임무는 세상에 아직도 마녀들이 존재한다는 것을 머글들이 알지 못하게 하는 것이다>가 된다.
